In “It’s a Deal”, a flashback discloses that popular character Alastor, the Radio Demon was a serial killer in his human life. Knowing full well he was headed to the underworld, he made contact with the afterlife in advance to obtain a powerful role there. The charismatic leader, who leads Hell’s cannibal community, promised Alastor he would become “the most powerful Condemned Soul in Hell” in exchange for his soul.

This prompts the question: In what way is Rosie sufficiently strong to raise Alastor above all other Sinner Demons?

“The agreement between Rosie and Alastor is the first stepping stone in a much bigger story that encompasses so much, moving into the third season,” the showrunner explains. “Obviously that is an excellent question: How is she so strong? The answer could be various factors, but the answer is in season three. I'm very excited for fans to see it.”

It is uncertain the duration viewers will have to wait for Hazbin Hotel’s next season. The production companies have green-lit seasons 3 and 4, but the creator frequently notes that animated production is a time-consuming endeavor, and subsequent seasons are undated. Still, she says withholding on those details is a crucial aspect of maintaining season 2’s focus where it belongs.

“The difficulty of any agreement with demons, or stories that have enigmas, is providing people sufficient clues to be like, Something's up here, and then revealing that gradually, and letting that be gratifying,” she says. “So I am quite eager.”

Questions Answered in The Next Season

The showrunner assures that the upcoming season will tackle the queries followers have been posing, like why the cannibal leader ordered Alastor to disappear for seven years, which diminished his power in Hell.

“The entire seven-year span, and the deals these individuals are making, and all that — it's feeding into a bigger narrative,” she reveals.

In the meantime, the Rosie/Alastor backstory episode provides another glimpse into how the main characters of Demonic Sinners appeared as as mortals, following after seeing Sir Pentious’ historical human form in the second episode. The creator says that significant consideration was put into the visual creation of these forms.

“The mortal forms of these personas carry so much weight,” she notes. “They range from looking really different from their infernal version to looking very similar. With Pentious, the first one we see, there was a little bit of a debate within the team between going with something that represents the personality, versus selecting an option that's historically correct. We opted for making something that just seemed like it was him.”

She says the biggest debate over Pentious’ human design was his lengthy locks: “We were like, ‘Nobody typically had extended hair of that style in Victorian-era London.’ But at the same time, we believe the outline is extremely crucial, and we also just thought he looked good. We were like, ‘This seems correct.’ We kind of provided the rationale that he lived in seclusion, so he just allowed his hair to lengthen. So there's always a way. As we create the human versions of these personas […] it is a very enjoyable process to explore and figure out. I am looking forward for fans to view additional of the appearances of the human versions.”
